New study finds cars with automatic transmission have lower crash risk

A new study suggests drivers who use manual transmissions have a lower chance of crash than those who drive manual.

The study, published in the International Journal of Automotive Research, looked at 1,500 people over the age of 45.

Researchers found the average person driving a manual car had an estimated chance of a fatal crash of 5.8 per cent compared with 5.6 per cent for people who drove the automatic.

“We were surprised to see that the risk was so low for drivers who drive automatic transmissions,” said study author Robert K. Sperling, a professor at the University of Wisconsin.

Sperling said people who drive the automatic transmission are more likely to have a manual transmission in the first place.

“There is a greater risk of being involved in a crash when there is a manual,” he said.

“This is one of the reasons why you might want to have the manual transmission.

If you have a good steering wheel and brake pedal, you’re going to be able to stay out of a crash.”

The study also found the more people used the manual, the higher their risk of crash.

But the study did not look at crash rates from the beginning of the year, when manual transmission sales started rising in Canada.

It also didn’t look at the risk of a driver being involved with a cyclist or pedestrian.
